Post No.1 - The Oldest lighthouse in Europe

Long, long time ago, one monk who lived in monastery, close to peninsula he decide to walk down the rocky edge. He want to double check if during the storm which took place a few days ago nothing bad had happen.
The monk knew that during the storms when visibility is limited, many of arriving ships sink because they hook protruding rocks.
Due to the location of the peninsula which suddenly protrude from the equal shoreline, the peninsula was called Hook Head.
The monk wasn't surprised at the time when he saw bodies drifting at the edge. He prayed for the souls of those dead people and he picked up all bodies to bury them. At the same time he was thinking what he could do to stop these disasters.
He finally decide to warn the approaching ships by the fire on the edge. He began to build the lighthouse.....as it later turned out the oldest lighthouse in Europe.
Today the lighthouse looks differently from original: height of the lighthouse ended up just after the second black stripe in the picture above. The wide base used for storing peat, coal and wood and in the basin above a fire would be lit each night.

Those ones who take care of the lighthouse at present, said that though frequent paints external walls in white color, there are still coming out reddish spots.
Theory says that this is the effect of adding to the mortar ox blood...
Present lighthouse can be seen inside. after buying a ticket , along with guide we are going through 115 steps up to the top where we can see beautiful views  of nearby bay.
Above it on the spot there is sailor gift shop and food store.
Outside family picnics turns to common games...
After games and battles we can seat and eat...
We are going to the rear of the lighthouse.
Place is unusual and requires caution. There are clefts, gaps and holes were we can easily fall into the  water or possibly catch injuries.
Going from the east of Hook Head lighthouse we can see unusual gaps filled with water. Even during the day there is a risk of falling, if someone is not careful.
Not that long ago, close to the lighthouse human remains were discovered. After analysis carried out by archaeologists, which proved that they were the bodies of survivors. Who were buried during the great famine. How many more secrets is the area hiding? No one knows.....

Hook Head Peninsula with the lighthouse is magic. Unfortunately parking in the area is not sufficient for all the people who want to essay this beautiful area on nice sunny days, on days such as this it is not unusual to have park as much as 2 km away.
